  Hindu New Year is otherwise known as "Varsha Pratipada" or "Samvatsaradi" among Hindu communities, which marks the beginning of the traditional Hindu lunisolar calendar. It is celebrated on different dates depending on the region and is celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and Chaitra Navratri in the north-eastern region of India. Hindu New Year falls on the first day of the Chaitra month or usually in the month of March or April according to the Gregorian calendar. People celebrate this festival by cleaning their houses, wearing new clothes and decorating their houses with floral patterns called rangoli. There are also various traditional rituals and customs that people follow to mark the beginning of the new year, such as worshipping Lord Ganesha, the lord of wisdom and success, and taking a bath before the sunrise. The theme for World Water Day 2021 is "Valuing Water," which encourages people to recognize the true value of water and to take action to protect it. Some key facts about the state of global water resources include: Over two billion people lack access to safe drinking water. Water scarcity affects more than 40% of the global population. Climate change, pollution, and overuse are major threats to freshwater resources. Nearly 80% of wastewater is discharged to the environment without treatment. Agricultural uses of water account for about 70% of global freshwater withdrawals.
