Hindu New Year is otherwise known as "Varsha Pratipada" or "Samvatsaradi" among Hindu communities, which marks the beginning of the traditional Hindu lunisolar calendar. It is celebrated on different dates depending on the region and is celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Ugadi in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and Chaitra Navratri in the north-eastern region of India.

Hindu New Year falls on the first day of the Chaitra month or usually in the month of March or April according to the Gregorian calendar.

People celebrate this festival by cleaning their houses, wearing new clothes and decorating their houses with floral patterns called rangoli. There are also various traditional rituals and customs that people follow to mark the beginning of the new year, such as worshipping Lord Ganesha, the lord of wisdom and success, and taking a bath before the sunrise.

According to Hindu mythology, the world was created by Lord Brahma on the day of Hindu New Year, and it is believed that the new year brings new beginnings, new opportunities and new experiences. People exchange sweets and gifts and wish each other good luck, prosperity and happiness on this auspicious day.
